Remember when true wireless earbuds were in its infancy with poor connectivity, subpar sound quality and terrible battery life? Thankfully, we’re past all that now. These days, true wireless earbuds are really quite amazing. If you’re still holding onto a pair of old earbuds though, you may want to consider an upgrade! Here are five things you should keep in mind when you’re looking for a new pair of earbuds.

1. Sound Quality

First, sound quality. This point might seem like a no-brainer, but obviously, sound quality is one of the most important factors to consider when buying any audio product. Whether the bass is strong enough or the midrange and treble clear enough, you’ll want to make sure you enjoy the sound out of the earbuds. The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 earbuds are well-known on the market as being one of the best-sounding true wireless earbuds around. You get a well-controlled sound with tight bass and detailed treble.

We also tested these earbuds with Dolby Atmos-compatible content and they sounded great. If you watch a lot of movies on the go, you’ll definitely want to consider these.

2. Active Noise Cancellation

Next, ANC. This might be a feature that not everybody wants, but there are quite a few benefits to at least having ANC available on your earbuds. You get to block out external noise and chatter when you want to listen to your music in peace, and if you’re commuting on a train or car, or even taking flights overseas, having ANC is a godsend. The Momentum True Wireless 2 has very decent ANC, but more than that, the earbuds also offer good passive noise isolation, which definitely contributes to blocking out background noise.

Now, when turning on ANC, you typically end up with the sound quality taking a hit, whether it be compression of the sound or slight distortions. The best part of the MTW 2 is that the sound quality doesn’t really degrade when ANC is turned on; it still sounds just as good.

3. Design

Third, we come to design. Sure, it’s always great if the earbuds sound nice and work well, but if they don’t look nice or if you don’t like the way they look, then you’re definitely less likely to use them, especially when you’re out and about. Getting something that looks sleek and premium is always better than a product that is made entirely with plastic. The fabric case of the MTW 2 is a great change from the glossy plastic cases that many other brands use, and if you want something that subtly stands out, the brushed metal faceplates on the earbuds are a nice touch.

4. Battery Life

But what good are your earbuds if they die on you halfway? Battery life is another important factor to consider, and this varies based on your own lifestyle. If you’re rarely out of the house, it might not be as important to you. But if you’re traveling for an hour or two a day, you’ll definitely want something that can last not only your commute but also when you’re out working or at school. The MTW 2 has a seven-hour battery life in the earbuds, with an additional 3 charges in the case for a total of 28 hours. That means a full charge could probably last at least 3 to 4 days depending on your usage. It’s probably a bit less than that if you keep ANC turned on all the time, but overall, it’s still very decent.

5. Bluetooth 5.2 with Qualcomm aptX

Lastly, we come to connectivity. Back when true wireless earbuds came out, there were plenty of issues with earbuds losing connection, or music cutting out. If you’re still using earbuds that are on Bluetooth 4.2, you definitely will want to upgrade. The Momentum True Wireless 2 uses Bluetooth 5.1, which is miles better in terms of connection stability, and the earbuds also support aptX and AAC codecs, which means that sound quality is even better when compared to the standard SBC codec.

So those are the five big features you should consider when deciding which earbuds to upgrade to, hopefully, this helps you to make your decision a little easier!
